Blackberry Torch – Is the fire almost out with RIM?

August 3, 2010

Well the Blackberry Torch was announced today. A new BB device coming out with AT&T. How much you want to wager the BB gets better reception then them Ifones? The articles and reviews are starting to come in. Some say RIM is done with. Nothing new, sexy, state of the art…others say…it’s a Blackberry and corporate users are going to still with the device because it just works. Nothing fancy…but the most amazing push technology out there!!!

One feature that will put a smile on the IT administrators of the world is it’s ability to erase corporate data from a personal phone. Get it? Let’s say you buy yourself a Torch. Then get a job with AT&T. They will allow you to use your personal phone on their network because if and when you get fired for complaining about poor reception they can erase corporate data only. That is very slick.

It’s been a while…but your good neighborhood friends at Denver Desktop Support.

Five Best Antivirus Applications – Feature – Lifehacker

August 20, 2009

Anti virus software is always a hot topic with our our customers. Norton and McKafee are probably the most popular when it comes to the general public but a host of other virus software’s are available and some do just as good of a job if not better and most have free versions for personal use.

Here is a great article on the top 5 virus softwares.  Denver Desktop Support has worked with and recommends Avast, AVG and Avira. They all do a great job of keeping the most popular viruses at bay.

We always recommend using common sense as well when surfing the web and opening emails. If something looks a little strange, well then it probably is and don’t click on it. Most customers these days admit they clicked on a link that looked sketchy and as many of you know some  viruses can be removed in minutes while some could take days to remove which leads to lost productivity.

Good luck and happy surfing!!

Alternatives to Windows, Mac, Linux and online applications | AlternativeTo.net

June 30, 2009

Open source is a word we like to use around here quite often. Want the power of a Photoshop but don’t want to fork out the $100′s of smackers it is going to cost? Looking for a decent DVD burning tool, but don’t want a huge program wasting up space and performance on your machine? If you answer yes to either of these or both, you must check out this week’s web site of the week.

You won’t be disappointed.

Lifehacker – Google Street View Introduces Double-Click “Pancake” Navigation – Google

June 7, 2009

Hopefully you have used Google Street Views for one thing or another.  I’ve used it for a bunch of things. Looking at rental property or checking out a commercial building to double check my directions. Huge improvement for navigation. Check it out when you have a moment or two. Think you will be surprised on what a little tweak can do to increase your efficiencies.
